How to Fix TCL Roku TV Screen Flickering

Sometimes when you are watching your favorite show or doing a live streaming session of your game, your TV screen starts to flicker.

The background light of the TV flashes, then it gets a little dim and turns completely black for a second. And again you can see the flash of light.

The problem is not associated with the internal working of Roku. And so you will have to make a few changes on your end to fix it.

How to Fix TCL Roku TV Screen Flickering Issue?

The flickering TCL Roku TV screen can be due to some faulty component attached to your TV. Or the input or output cables might not be secure.

Since all these problems can be tackled at your end, let us see some solutions to fix TCL Roku screen blinking issues.

Method 1 – Reboot Roku TV

So before you reset the Roku TV set, make sure you have the volume of your TV up enough that you can listen. Once you have increased the volume, let us move to the process.

Step 1 – Switch on your TCL Roku TV. Stay on the home Screen.

Step 2 – Now here is the combination of keys that you need to press on your Roku remote to start the reboot process-

  • Home Screen button – 5 times
  • Up button – 1 time
  • Rewind button – 2 times
  • Fast forward button – 2 times

The TV will follow the remote instructions and then freeze for a moment. Wait for a few minutes till the device turns off and then will turn on again.

Step 3 – The device will reboot and you will be redirected to the home screen. You can now check if the flickering issue has been resolved.

Method 2 – Unplug/Plug your Roku TV

If the above method did not work for you, then try to disconnect it. Now since your TV would be On after rebooting, here are the steps you need to follow.

Step 1 – While your TV is running, go ahead and unplug the power cord.

Step 2 – Now wait about 30 seconds. If you want you can also give it a minute’s rest.

Step 3 – Plug in the power cable and turn on your TV.

The minor flickering issues of Roku TV screen can be easily fixed by this method. However, if you are still facing the issue, then head on to the next method.

Method 3 – Change the TV Brightness

Sometimes, the flickering we see on our screen is because of the set brightness. You might have changed the brightness for some specific show or movie and then forgot to reset it.

Or it is also possible that someone at your home might have changed the brightness level unknowingly. Therefore, try adjusting the brightness of the TV screen to fix TCL Roku flickering issue.

Step 1 – From the Home Screen, open Settings.

Step 2 – In the Settings menu, scroll down to locate TV Picture settings. Click on it.

Step 3 – Now choose TV Brightness.

Check the option that you have selected. If you have selected “Brighter or Bright,” then set your Brightness to “Normal.”

However, if the TV’s overall display is already set to Normal then you can try the Brighter or Darker option and check if any of the different brightness works for you.

Method 4 – Reset Audio/Picture Settings

Another way to fix TCL Roku TV screen flickering issue is by resetting the audio/picture settings.

According to some users changing the resolution of the media that they were playing resolved the flickering screen. And so let us reset the Picture settings of our Roku TV to check if it works.

Step 1 – From the Home Screen, go to Settings.

Step 4 – You will see the Factory Reset option. Click on it.

Now you will get two options, whether you want to factory reset everything or reset the audio/picture settings.

Step 5 – Click on the Reset TV Audio/Picture Settings option.

Step 6 – On the screen you would see the play/pause button icon x 3. This means to reset audio/picture settings of your TV, you have to press the play/pause button thrice.

Step 7 – Once you press the button as directed, your TV will reboot and restart.

Now you can go ahead and check if the flickering screen is still present or not.

Note – Resetting the Audio or Picture Settings do not affect our Roku account or the channels that you have added. So you can easily go ahead without any worry.

Method 5 – Factory Reset

This is the last and the ultimate solution to fix any issue. If none of the methods mentioned above work for you, then factory reset your device.

Step 1 – From your Home Screen menu, click on Settings.

Step 2 – Then choose System> Advanced System Settings.

Step 3 – Now click on Factory Reset. And then choose the Factory Reset everything option.

Step 4 – Next you will have to enter the four digit code that appears on the TV. And press Ok.

That’s it. Your TV will be reset to its original state.

Note – After performing a Factory reset, your Roku account will be removed. Also all the channels that you would have installed will also be removed. It will be just like a brand new TV, where you will have to make all the changes that you did before.

Conclusion

Roku TV screen flickering or the black screen issue can happen randomly. There is no fixed cause for the issue. To troubleshoot problems like this you can opt the hit and trial method.
