Let’s take a closer look at some of the methods that you can try, from physical obstacles to changes in network settings.
The Airplane mode disconnects the communication of your phone with the Internet.
Start by turning on the Airplane mode and then turn it back off. Try reconnecting your device to the WiFi network and wait till the connection is established.
You can turn on and off the Airplane mode in two ways –
Open the Settings of your device. Click on the toggle bar next to Airplane mode to turn it on and then after a few seconds tap on the switch to turn it off.
Another way to turn on or off airplane mode is through the Control Center.
The next fix involves resetting the network settings of your iPhone. This will reset all the settings like WiFi, cellular, VPN, and more back to the factory defaults.
It is a great way to fix iPhone not connecting to 5GHz WiFi, but also deeper connectivity issues. Ensure you write down the WiFi password as you will need it later.
Step 1 – Open Settings on your Phone. And click on General.
Step 2 – Click on Reset. And then select the Reset Network Settings option.
Step 3 – A prompt message will appear. Confirm your action by clicking on Reset Network Settings again.
Your phone will shut down till the reset process completes. Wait till the phone completes the process and turns back on automatically.
After your iPhone turns on, select your WiFi network, enter the password and see if the device connects to your network.
It is important to keep your phone updates especially when you are using an iOS device. Apple introduces regular software/ iOS updates which ensure the smooth running of your device.
The new features are introduced with new updates. It also resolves the bugs that come along. To check for any pending iOS updates follow the steps given below –
Step 1 – Open the Settings of your iPhone. And click on General.
Step 2 – Then go to Software Update.
If a software update is available, you will be able to see the “Download and Install” option. Click on Install Now to install the latest iOS version. It can take a few minutes or close to an hour for the process to complete.
Note – Ensure that your phone has at least 50% battery as the iOS update process might run for a long time.
According to some users, updating the iOS software of their device, resolved their WiFi connectivity issue.
If none of the methods mentioned above works for you, then restoring to factory defaults is the last resort.
Factory restore will delete all the settings and information from your iPhone. And subsequently, the latest iOS version will be installed on your device. This method will refresh even the internal settings of your device which might be causing issues with its connection to the 5GHz WiFi network.
Step 1 – Go to Settings and click on the General option.
Step 2 – Then click on Reset. And select the Erase All Content and Settings option.
Step 3 – Next you will be asked to enter your Apple ID and passcode.
Step 4 – Lastly confirm the reset process and give a yes signal to erase all the data.
Wait for a few seconds till the iPhone is restored to factory settings. And your 5GHz WiFi would be back to running on your iPhone.
Bonus Tip –
Eject your SIM card and reinsert it. This will reset your device’s connection to the network of your carrier.
