There are many apps that dominate the market, but Discord has certainly made its mark.
Its easy user interface, no server costs and multiple integrations have made Discord one of the best apps to communicate while playing.
However, the app has been attacked by various bugs, which causes issues with the audio.
And today we are going to discuss one such error – Discord not detecting input or output devices.
Many times while playing, the audio stops, or Discord fails to detect the mic.
Such situations definitely call for a panic attack but do not worry, there are some easy ways with which you can fix the problem.
Now there can be various reasons that lead to the Discord input or output device issue.
And so here are a few ways that you can try to troubleshoot the issue.
The first thing that everyone tries is resetting and restarting the device. So begin by giving your device a quick restart.
Following the steps below is what you need to do when the discord app returns to power.
Step 1 – Open the Discord App. And go to User Settings.
Step 2 – Then choose the Voice and Video option from the left side panel. And select the Reset Voice Settings option.
After resetting the Voice settings, check if your voice can be heard. If not, then check the Input Device.
Step 3 – Under the Voice Settings section, look for Input Device. You can change the Input device from default to the specific device that you are using.
Also just below the Input device option, check the Input Volume Slider. Make sure it is dragged to the Maximum, i.e., to the right.
Another way to solve the Discord not detecting input device is by checking the mic.
This will confirm if the issue is with the mic detection as input by Discord or not.
Step 1 – Open the Discord app. And go to User Settings. It is usually located in the right corner of the screen.
Step 2 – Next choose Voice and Video. And to perform a Mic Test, click on the Let’s Check option.
Step 3 – Now listen to the Discord music that plays.
If you can hear the sound clearly then it means that the mic audio input is working properly. And so move on to the next methods.
Sometimes the issue doesn’t lie within the Discord app. And so before making any changes in the settings of your Discord, check if you have enabled the microphone access option on your PC.
Step 1 – Go to the Settings of your Windows PC. And then click on Privacy.
Step 2 – Now click on App Permissions. Under this section, choose Microphone.
On the right side, click on the toggle button against the option that says- Allow apps to access your phone.
The audio input and output settings in Discord are also affected by some settings. The Automatic Input Sensitivity is one of the Discord Settings which when disabled, the microphone stops functioning. And so the Discord app does not pick up sounds from the microphone and surroundings.
So first check if the Automatic Input Sensitivity is switched on or not in your Discord.
Step 1 – Open the Discord App. And go to the User Settings.
Step 2 – Under the App Settings section, choose Voice and Video.
Step 3 – Next, scroll down and look for the Input Sensitivity option.
Step 4 – Turn the Automatically Detected Input Sensitivity to On position.
Once the settings are enabled check if the audio of your Discord is working or not. You will be able to see a green light flashing when Discord is transmitting the sound.
If none of the methods mentioned above works, then you can log out of your Discord account and then restart it.
Step 1 – Open User Settings.
Step 2 – You will find at the bottom of the left side panel, a red color Logout button.
Step 3 – Click on it and then close the app.
Wait for a few seconds and if you want you can also give your device a quick restart. Then restart the Discord app and log in using your official credentials.
The Discord app is one of the best apps to communicate with your fellow gamers and competitors while playing.
And so if the Discord is not detecting input or output devices then check if your speakers and microphones have been enabled on Windows PC.
Next, move to the Discord Settings and make suitable changes.
Lastly, do a fresh install of the Discord app and check the input or output audio. One of these methods will definitely work for you.
However, if none of the methods mentioned above works then you can reach out to the customer support of Discord.
