Sometimes we don’t want to watch the same TV show or movie as others. In such a situation, we all think of having a separate device.
But streaming content in a room that does not have a router or modem can be difficult.
Do you also feel the same?
I know many people compromise and adjust when it comes to streaming their preferred channels or TV shows.
But, guys, this is the 21st century, and today you can easily enjoy your favorite TV shows and movies without any buffering or lagging.
All thanks to the improved wireless connection.
And if you have Kodi, then just connect your WiFi to your system and start streaming from anywhere in the house.
Kodi aka XBMC is compatible with various devices from Windows, Android to Raspberry Pi. This brings you one step closer to your dream of creating a home theatre with Kodi.
So, today we are going to share with you a quick guide to connect Kodi to WiFi.
We all know that Kodi is an open-source streaming platform. And LibreELEC was specifically designed to run the Kodi software.
So we can say that LibreELEC is the operating system that loads enough software on your device and allows it to run Kodi.
When compared to other OS like Windows, or Android, or Mac, we feel that LibreELEC is more efficient and powerful for software like Kodi. Another reason being it is not useful for running any software other than Kodi. It is purely dedicated to Kodi and therefore is the best option.
Coming to the LibreELEC’s device compatibility, the HTPC device like Raspberry Pi is a great option.
Without even spending any extra penny you can enjoy quality-performance in terms of sound, image, and video. So we’ll go ahead with the Raspberry Pi WiFi setup.
WiFi setup on Kodi is easy. Just like any other device you have to head over to the Settings and Connections section of your application.
But it can be a little complicated for the not so tech-savvy people.
So we have tried to make the process simple for you. Here we are sharing the setup process for both Kodi v17 Krypton and Kodi Jarvis.
Part I- Wireless Connection on Kodi Krypton
Let us begin with the latest Kodi version, Kodi Krypton, and the steps for wireless connection.
Step 1- Launch your Kodi application. Click on the Add-ons option from the home screen.
Step 2-Now go to Program Add-ons. Select LibreELEC configuration.
Step 3- A new window will open. Scroll down the list and select the Connections option.
Step 4- Hover your mouse on your connection and click on it. Or hit the Enter tab.
Step 5- A pop-up menu will appear. Click on the Connect button.
Step 6- Next you will be asked to enter the password for your WiFi network. Press the correct keys from the virtual keyboard and press Done.
Step 7- If you enter the correct password, then you will be connected to the WiFI network. You can also see the IP address issued to you.
Part II- Wireless Connection on Kodi Jarvis
For Kodi Jarvis, we will be using OpenELEC instead of LibreELEC. The latter is a fork of OpenELEC and you can easily use it to configure your wireless connection.
Just follow the given steps-
Step 1- Launch the Kodi app. Go to the Programs tab.
Step 2- Within the OpenELEC configuration, click on the Connections tab.
Step 3- Select your network connection. And select Ok.
Step 4- Again a pop-up menu will appear. Click on Connect.
Step 5- Next enter your password using the virtual keyboard. Soon you will see the IP address against your network connection name.
This means you have successfully connected your Kodi to WiFi.
If you are using Kodi Raspberry Pi, then follow the steps given below for the Raspberry Pi WiFi setup.
Step 1- Launch your Kodi app. Then go to Programs.
Step 2- Click on the Raspbmc Settings. The settings window will open.
Step 3- Then go to the Network section. Here change the Network Mode to WiFi- Wireless Network.
Step 4- Scroll the list and find the Scan Networks option. Click on it.
Step 5- You will see a list of Network Connections close to your device. Select your home network and press Ok.
Step 6- Return to the Raspbmc settings. Go to the WiFi Security option and make changes according to your router.
Step 7- Now click on the WiFi key. Enter the password of your wireless network and press the Done option.
Step 8- Move out of the WiFi Key window. Scroll down and find the Update Now option.
Step 9- Follow the on-screen instructions and complete the configuration.
That’s it. You can now start streaming different Kodi addons seamlessly using the wireless connection.
So this is how you can easily connect Kodi to WiFi. However, be sure that while connecting you do not have the Ethernet cable already plugged in the socket.
Another thing to keep in mind while setting up WiFi is the presence of spaces or strange characters in the network name or password.
This can lead to errors like “couldn’t connect to the network server.” So try avoiding such mistakes.
